Loch Lomond is an unincorporated mountain community in southern Lake County, California, set at an elevation of about 2,800 feet on the slopes overlooking Clear Lake. The community lies along State Route 175, north of the village of Cobb and about three and a half miles north of Whispering Pines, sharing the ZIP code 95461 with nearby Middletown. The community takes its name from Scotland's Loch Lomond. It grew from a small mountain resort established by the Prather family, whose matriarch chose the name out of her Scottish heritage, and the settlement retained it as a quiet residential and vacation community built around the high-country setting. The name is one of several Scottish place names found in the region. Loch Lomond's year-round population is small — a few hundred residents — and swells during the summer with seasonal and vacation residents drawn to the cooler mountain air and the nearby lake.
